I had to put water in a ceramic casserole dish, like a small one. It is very difficult for my puppies to tip. Mine like to pick up their bowls and carry them around, which meant they were spilling the water all the time. They can not pick this one up so they don't spill it. I don't know if that would help with the digging. You want something that is heavy and with a flat bottom and shallow sides so it is hard for them to tip.
Hopefully they will grow out of this soon! LOL
