Honestly you'd have to pay me to go to a nail salon, I've done it twice and it was awful both times. They can't shape nails right and they're never nice, plus germs eww.
One time was at a fancy salon the other was at a cheap place.
I'd rather spend the $15 on a few bottles of nice nail polish.

Some colors are always an issue, white and some pastels tend to be streaky and red tends to be a bit sheer.
Yes thinner is very different than remover, remover will break the polish down and ruin it. Sally's has a big bottle of thinner for about $5.
