Raccoon's do come out during the day. They are very aggressive and very mean. They come out at night more, but I lived in the country for many years and they do come out at other times.

Raccoon's are known to carry Parvo as well as rabies.

Your vet may want to give your dog a rabies booster. They did that with my cat who was attacked by another animal, possibly by another cat, but we weren't sure. He was up to date on his rabies, but the vet felt giving him a booster at that time was the best option in case the other animal had rabies. My cat had injuries though, where if no skin was broken then there is less of a threat of a dog getting anything from the raccoon.

I am glad your dog is okay. Raccoon's can be mean for sure. My husky used to get a hold of them and she would take them out in the river and kill them. We would find several dead in one night if she broke off her chain. She was over 100lbs though. I would hate for one my Yorkies to meet a Raccoon. I am sure we have them in town but all I ever see around here are opossums and woodchucks.

I would check with your vet depending on how long ago the rabies shot was given. I believe mine said that because my cat was over a year into a 3 year shot they wanted to give a booster, but had it been in the first year of the shot I don't think they would have given the booster. Just something to think about and all vets are different so yours might not do the same thing mine did, but I would rather be safe than sorry.
