Don't feel as though you need to have someone local. I have several mentors that help me over the phone. One helped me whelp my first litter while on the phone. I talk to them every week at least. Don't limit yourself. There are lots of breeders out there but you need to decide what kind of breeder you want to be. Make those phone calls interview your mentor to be. Once you find one or more that have the ethics you are looking for ask if they would mind being your mentor. You'll realize when you have the same ethics when it comes to breeding, you pretty much have an instant friendship too. I owe all my knowledge and success in my breeding program to my wonderful mentors, none of which live near me.

Best wishes!
