We spoke with the people we got Bentley from and the 2 remaining puppies they have are eating very similiar to how Bentley is. Prior to getting Bentley we bought some books that were specificly about Yorkies. In the book it stated as a puppy they would eat 1/3 of a cup 3 times a day. It also said you would have to strictly monitor how much they ate because they would easily over eat if given the opportunity. I think this is what caused our concern regarding his eating habits.

Bentley sure is a smart and energetic lil guy. He is quite the little lover as well. His temperment is just what we were looking for. We are really enjoying him.

Once again thank you for the reply. I am glad I found this forum that caters specifically to the Yorkie.
Happy to hear you are enjoying Bentley! You will have to share some photos. Here is some info on how to post pictures (they need to be the right file size):

Regarding how much food your Yorkie should be eating, keep in mind that it depends on his size and which food you feed. Some foods are around 320 calories per cup, while some of the higher protein foods are 480 calories per cup. The higher calorie foods have the nutrients more densely packed, so less is needed. Most foods have loose guidelines for quantity on the packaging. I believe they tend to overestimate, so I feed less than what they recommend.

As Wylie's Mom indicated, puppies who are free-fed (food available at all times), do not really overeat. I did not have any concerns until my boys were adults. One is still a good self-regulator, but the other would overeat given the opportunity.

Yorkie Talk is wonderful for info and support. I would have been lost without it!
