Have you ever done any house painting? I did a lot of faux finishes in my current home and blue painter's tape is a must. You put it around molding and trim where you want a straight line / edges. When the paint is dry it comes up very easily and leaves no residue.

What people are doing by putting a strip across their back window is showing support for law enforcement. It's the "thin blue line" of law enforcement, because they are what separates a civilized society from anarchy. Police academies are already having trouble recruiting while others are retiring because who wants to deal with the current climate and the possibility that someone wants to execute you just because you are wearing a uniform.
For those that didn't see Deputy Goforth's funeral service, his best friend, Roland (an HPD cop who had been his best friend since 4th grade) told many stories. As adults, they lived in different parts of town and it just so happened that Goforth patrolled Rolands neighborhood and Roland was assigned to patrol Roland's neighborhood. So they looked out for each other.
There was a young man in Roland's neighborhood that Goforth had arrested for stealing a car. When he found out about Goforth's murder he was very upset and told Roland that Goforth was his favorite cop. One day the young man took out his cell phone camera and started taking a video of Goforth in his patrol vehicle "look what we have here, my favorite cop!" Goforth pics up his cell phone and starts to video the guy saying "a car thief, he brakes into houses." Another time Goforth walked up to the young man while he was in his car and they had another "mutual conversation on video." That young man put together a short video to honor Deputy Goforth:
