Poor Dixie! Max has had a couple of styes along with other eye problems. His styes were on the eyelid and rim of the eye and only required warm compresses to heal. They were small and had a discernible bump, like a pimple.
Sometimes the stye can be so enlarged that it is painful or rubs against the eyeball. That is when meds are helpful to speed healing and protect the eyeball from injury.
The swelling and redness can also be a sign of uveitis, inflammation, caused by a variety of things. That is why it is always best to see the doctor to get an accurate diagnosis and meds.
