A HCSO deputy reported that yesterday, as he was filling up his patrol car, a stranger walked up to him and said "I've got your back." Then the man stood there in the parking lot and scanned all around to be sure the deputy was safe. The deputy went in to buy something and the stranger didn't leave until the deputy was back in his patrol car and back on the road.

We had a situation here yesterday when a high speed chase that started in Houston ended about a mile from my house. I didn't realize anything was going down until I heard helicopters and went outside and saw police and news helicopters hovering stationary practically over my house.

Click2houston had the last 20 minutes on video (they've taken that down now). At the point where the chase ended, Hwy 59 chokes down to two lanes and it really backs up, so he had nowhere to go and decided to drive into a construction area in the median (current project to widen the highway) in the dirt. I thought he was going to mow down some construction workers. He finally ditched the car and jumped a barrier and ran across the northbound lanes and around a business (barefoot and having trouble keeping his pants up) then ended up outside of a nursing home where a couple was unloading a van. A white jeep came into the picture and not long after the guy stopped running and laid down on the concrete on his stomach with his arms and legs spread out. The on-air announcers were wondering if he gave up because he was exhausted and couldn't run anymore. It was just weird because the police were not even close to him. Maybe 20 seconds later the police got there and they cuffed him and put him into the patrol car without incident.

Today I found out that he stopped running because there was a guy in that white jeep who saw the all the police cars on the freeway and this guy running and was afraid that the fugitive was going to do something to the couple unloading the van, perhaps carjack them or something to continue his spree. He yelled out to the perp that he had a concealed carry license and he had a gun and knew how to use it. Told the perp to get down on the ground and he did. Another law-abiding citizen with a CHL that was able to stop a bad guy.
