I got Brody from his previous family as a 're-home' when he was 14 months old. Then we puppysat a friend's Shih Tzu. After she left, Brody was so forlorne, I searched for a 'friend like him' with similar size, age, and personality and/or breed and found Mia, another Yorkie (all golden...color fault) needing a new home. Both Brody and Mia were 17 months old when Brody met Mia and she came home with us. They became instant, best friends. We now have three Yorkies, and all were adults when our Yorkie family expanded. They have adapted and are all 'family' now, they play together, kissy-face each other, and we are thrilled since each has an individual personality. Each loves us endlessly and we them, and each provides endless delight for us. Right now, one is at daddy's feet, sleeping, one is half in a doggie bed with a chew toy, and one is being petted by my side...between typing, I mean...LOL. There is extra work and expense, but it is not sufficient for me to worry about. I do everything I can to keep them safe and healthy. I bathe all three in the shower together and dry and groom them in rapid succession. I brush them out one after the other...no big deal...they know the drill...LOL. I think a lot depends on the dogs, but the humans play an important role as well. Would I do it again? You bet your sweet bippy I would. |
