I just finished a 30 day trial of having Bella on Zylkene to see if it would help with her hyperactivity and licking. At first, I hid the pill in a lump of cheese, but she eventually learned to eat the cheese and spit out the pill. Plus, I didn't want her to develop a cheese addiction
. Then I realized that I could open up the capsule and pour the Zylkene powder into my hand, and Bella would eagerly lick it out of the palm of my hand. I tasted a little of the Zylkene myself, and it tasted just like milk powder, so I suppose that's why Bella likes the flavor.
Unfortunately, Zylkene did NOTHING to change Bella's behavior--if anything, it encouraged her licking, since I had to allow her to lick it out of my hand. It might work for other dogs, or other conditions, but it didn't work for Bella at all. I might ask the vet about prescription medications the next time she goes in for a checkup.
