You're so right to be careful. Just recently someone posted on another board about getting a cash offer on their home. The woman said her fiancee was out of the country due to a family crisis, would get back in a couple weeks and wanted to pay cash up to 265K. The "sale" - if you could call it that - fell through when the fiancee was supposedly back in the country but stopped contacting the woman. Turned out her husband had run off on her a few months earlier & she found this supposed fiancee via the internet. Depressed about the breakup of her long-time marriage, she fell for sweet talk. She opened a bank account & sent him plane fare. She's out that & the small deposit she gave the home owners and could be sued for more. The home owners can't close on their new home either. Oh yeah - it was the homeowner who happened to ask her where she met the guy and where he supposedly was. That's when she spilled the beans. So humiliating. And yup - the guy was "visiting his mother" in Nigeria! If it seems fishy, it probably is! |
