You said it so well, and even if you can well afford the money, it's the emotional investment that can take a toll. While no breeder can absolutely guarantee a healthy pup, you can raise you chances dramatically by going to a breeder whose goal is raising healthy pups and who does health testing and knows the line 5 generations back on both sides.
