I put a little butter on the pill - just to help it slide down easier.
Then I open my dog's mouth and put it as far back as possible.
Then I take my finger and push it even further back.
If I can get the pill far enough back in his throat - his gag reflex takes over and he swallows it.
This usually works quickly and easily for me.
I had to give my cat pills once - and I actually put it back in her throat and then quickly took the eraser end of a pencil and pushed it even further back. She always swallowed it.
Doesn't your vet always amaze you. They just take a pill - put it someplace in the dog's mouth - and in less than a second - it's gone! I am sure that practice makes perfect. They have it down to a science.
