I grabbed a scissor and cut the collar off. My first thought was that this could have happened when I was out. She is not my first Yorkie. We have had dogs for 45 years but I have never seen anything like this happen. The collar was not too big, the usual two fingers slipped under it. I immediately went on-line and after some research bought two Keepsafe break away collars for both dogs. This is a lesson to check those collars and make sure they are not going to strangle your dogs if they get caught on a bush or while romping with another dog.
The 2-finger rule is really for bigger dogs. For smaller dogs, you really just want to barely fit a finger in there for it to be safe.

So glad you were home and able to catch it happening, phew ! Breakaway collars are great. I get mine at Chloes Collars and I have her make them extra thin for yorkies.
