So if I want to visit my familiy over there, Kupo will need to get another rabies shot, (30 days after 1st rabies).
I'm paranoid about possibility of over vaccinating him and making him sick. The thing is that when I first got him, the breeder gave him up until his 2nd puppy shots, but when I went to the vet, the vet wanted to disregard his previous shots and start over... so in total, he had gotten 5 puppy shots, compared to regular 3. He was also given Lepto and bordetella shots, even though it was suggested not to by many YTers, since he needed those shots to be able to travel. I'm also in military family so I thought it's going to be better to be prepared to take him wherever I need him to.
Do you think it's going to be fine if he gets another rabies shot only 30 days after? With all these previous shots?
Also, From where I am at, fastest flight time is about 11 hrs, and I know that pets are NOT allowed in cabin with me. How should I deal with this later? I never had to deal with this before so I'm not sure what to expect. Will he need some kinda calming med or whatever..? I know its far off from now, but I just wanted to do some research.
Thanks in advance. :] |
I'm a little confused...why is the 2nd rabies shot required when 1 shot provides the needed immunity? Is Hawaii requiring 2 shots or something? I don't get it. It's a shame to have to get 2. But if you do need it for some reason, it should theoretically be okay...it's just that it's not really going to do anything...it's virtually pointless to get it.
I thought you could pay and have pets fly in cabin w/ you to Hawaii on some airlines...are you saying this is not the case? If so, yikes. Cargo flying is not ideal at all, to say the least. Personally, I too would think about tranquilizing my dog, however, there are issues with this. For example, most vets will prescribe acepromazine as a tranq for travel, however, some dogs will have issues w/ this med w/ properly respirating/breathing -- and you would never know this was happening if the dog was in cargo, ya know? So if you decide on using ace (which, many do, btw)...make sure you try it a couple times with your dog prior to flying and make sure he reacts safely to it. I've probably scared you now, so I will say to remember that thousands of dogs do fly safely all the time...it's just not ideal, really.
