Three years ago while renovating the upstairs, we tore off an uneven piece of drywall, and discovered a crack in a major support beam. Had to bring in structural engineers, and big contractors to shore up half of the upper level with scaffolding in my dining room, so they could replace the beam with a steel beam, at a cost of over $16,000. It should have been gold plated and exposed at that price. Then had to tear out a whole upstairs room of teak flooring that had just been installed and fix cracks in drywall all over, due to the jacking up of the ceiling/floor. Lotta money spent on stuff we can't see, but can rest assured that the house is now safe. Reminds me of the HGTV shows, how they go to remodel, and find hidden disasters.

Oh well. Life goes on.

LOL, gold plated and exposed. Indeed!
