I use Vellus Static Stabilizer as a detangler, although it isn't really intended as one. Works for us. No sticky mess or buildup.

This past winter when the furnace and dry air were drying out my boys' coats, I used organic coconut oil. It made the hair greasy, so I used it close to bath day.
