Default Condolences - I know the feeling

I am so sorry to hear about your precious Mickey! I actually cried reading it, your pain came off the page. I know because I lost my 10 year old suddenly by a bacteria infection within 48 hours. We took him to the vet on morning two of him not eating, runs, etc. That was a Friday, my husband and I had a trip to the mountains with three other couples. But my youngest son, who is 18 was going to stay home that weekend and watch them. The vet said he should start feeling better in the morning, they hydrated him and gave him antibiotics. We told our son to check on him and he did every hour. However, when he got up at 2am to check, my sweet Baxter boy was barely alive. My son picked him up and he took his last breath in my sons arms! Your story so touched me. Of course I keep blaming myself. I shouldn't have gone on the trip (we were a 4 hour drive away). When my son called earlier in the evening to say he didn't look better, in fact he looked worse, we chalked it up to feeling a little worse before he got better! I am anguished and guilt ridden over not having my son put him in his car and get him to emergency! Like you, I didn't know it would be that short and fast! I too was anguished beyond words. This Friday will be 9 weeks and I still cry everyday in some manner. I have to admit, the pain in not as excrutiating, but the hole in my heart is still there. Like your Mickey - our Baxter was the light of our lives. He was like a little person who even "smiled" every time he saw you. I have NEVER been this heartbroken in my life. I am so sorry for your loss. I am sure Mickey spent the best 4 years a dog could being with you and your wife. My God bring you a little peace day by day, because that is how you must take it. I was in SHOCK the first two weeks. I don't even remember. I couldn't pick up his ashes, my husband had to. My heart feels for you and your wife. I am so very sorry.
