I think it's only natural for you to still miss Elliemae and to be honest, I think you will for the rest of your life. She was one of your biggest love in your life after all.
One of my sister's family had a Dalmatian. One of the SWEETEST dog you'll ever meet. I miss him and think about him from time to time. He wasn't even my dog!
