I don't think whelping mortality is a common event. It does happen, but I know so many breeders and most have never lost a mommy. If I lost 3 bitches in 2 yrs I would need to have some answers.....Sandy Lemire wrote a great book about bacterial infections...she had a problem with them..lost dogs and litters.
