I started out using pee pads with my female and she did very well with them but I had to put the pee pad in a litter box otherwise she wouldn't use it. It also had to be a clean pad or she wouldn't step into the box. It really helped with housebreaking especially in the middle of the night. She eventually stopped using the pads and wanted to go outside instead. She has not had an accident in the house in over 6 months. However, My male yorkie, who is a year older, thought that pee pads were his own special chew toys and chose to tear them apart rather than use them appropriately. Unfortunately, he still has accidents in the house and he's almost 2 1/2 years old but we're still working at it. I also know of people who have used dog litter (not the same as cat litter) in the litter box rather than pee pads and have had some success with that method. I think it's called "yesterday's news" and can be purchased at Wal-mart.

good luck
