Then last year her CK number was high or at least to me and my vet high, (this was the first blood test AFTER I had gotten the insurance). Vet said it could be due to a heart muscle strain. Lola plays very hard, runs like the wind, has a lot of hair and pants and gets hot when playing. My husband thinks that was normal, but I had mentioned the panting to the vet about a year or two prior to the CK number being slightly elevated. My vet also thought panting during play was normal. So since I had insurance both my vet and I felt heart problems were worth ruling out. So I went to a specialist who then told me the number was not that high and gave me the option of still having the heart scan, because I wanted to know and also because I had insurance I had the scan. So my bill was around $500.00. Everything turned out normal. But Pet Plan denied the claim, saying it was a pre existing condition, I protested and my vet wrote a letter, it was denied again, why because the notes in my vet history from several years back indicated I commented that I thought Lola panted hard while playing!!!!!! Give me a break I am not a vet and do I really know enough to know what is over panting or normal panting, yet they used this to say it was pre existing condition. I believe for the insurance I only needed a year of records yet dummy me and my vet gave them all the records. So word to the wise when getting insurance only give them the absolute min you need to and get a print out of your vet records first and go over it with a fine tooth comb to see if anything negative has every been said by you or your vet. Now I have no insurance and am contemplating what to do, I feel like I wasted about $800.00 paying insurance premiums. Since I most likely can afford what might come down the pike in the future I think I will probably just save my cash and take a chance. Yet I have thought about starting over with a new vet or talking to my vet about starting me on a new record like Lola is a new patient but I am not exactly sure which way I will go |
I went w/ Embrace. I added my 14 y.o. to the policy a few months ago and submitted all her records asking for a medical review so I would know what was preexisting. As expected, they excluded a lot of things but there are still so many things that could be covered.
It could be fraud to act like your dog is new with your vet. It's better to see if another company would also exclude that issue that you had problems with. For example, if you go w/ Embrace, you can fax in all your records and ask for the medical review. If you don't like what they say, you can cancel the policy and get a refund if you have this done in their time frame which i think was 30 days.
