Thank you, ladies, for your reply!
Chaucer didn't start getting chicken and rice, until he got sick, but I buy pasture raised, organic chicken. That being said, in the past, when I would boil chicken, I use to give him some of the skin - which after some of the stuff I've read, I will not be doing any further.
He eats Wellness Core No Grain for Small Breed, and has for years. The only thing that varies is our doorman gives him treats - which I've told them I will start providing them with something to give to him. Wylie's Mom - from what I've read, I think with the smacking/licking/burping he's been doing since November, that reflux sounds like the probable culprit.
I've looked at what could have changed:
1. We moved nearly a year ago, one of the doormen passes out treats to the dogs in the building - but even though they get a specific type, I'm not sure of the brand, or if they are consistent with that.
2. When we moved, last April, we moved to the city. It is possible he's picked up something people have dropped. I told my husband that I'm considering a muzzle for him so he doesn't eat something off the ground that might have xylitol in it - that stuff scares me, now that I know about it.
3. We stopped using a harness and leash and started using this leash that goes around his neck.
So I've stopped the treats from downstairs, and I've ordered a Buddy Belt BB2 Dog Harness to start using.
I'm gave him 1/4 of a Pepcid the other day, and we now have him on probiotics, like the vet suggested. Will he need to take the Pecid daily? I'm guess I'll need to speak with the vet tomorrow - find out if it is something he has to have long term, or if we can try the probiotics for a while and see how he does.
I also want to know if we should doing the homemade food everyday with him eating his dry food as well, or if it should be something that is only once in a while (the stuff I make). I followed the recipe for the homemade dog food - have the supplement powder ingredients now as well. |
