I had to let my Avery go to another home a year ago.......It is a very hard thing to do, but my circumstances were a lot like yours. I had a very rough little one that just scared me to death with Avery. I was like you...I thought that I could teach him and that we would have rules like no holding the puppy while standing, etc. but it just wasn't working. It broke my heart to have to let Avery go, but he went to another YT member who still keeps me updated with pics......I've gotten to watch him grow up into a beautiful boy. I did what was best for Avery...not a day goes by that I don't think of him, but I know that I did what was right for him.
