If you try to use a pod by some other manufacturer it won't work in the machine.

I'm thinking of getting the 145 model so I won't have this problem.
I bought the K40 Elite, so it takes the standard k cup.

I bought this specific one, because I wanted to be able to fit & fill a travel cup to take to work, and I wanted the auto-off feature incase I forgot to turn it off before heading out the door.

I wasn't bothered about having a huge water tank, as I would most likely do only one travel mug per day, but yet I wanted a tank so I don't have to put water in for every use. I didn't need the charcoal filter, as I have horrible well water, so will only put filtered water in it, never tap.

So when I saw the machine that had all that I needed, on sale, and there was just one left on the shelf, I grabbed it!
