Well no idea if it's coincidence or not but Lola, my moms pup came to us on Royal Canin puppy. Her eyes teared up like crazy... constantly runny and goopy causing staining. I was cleaning out her eyes 2x a day. When we switched her food to Earthborn, after about 3-4 days of being solely on the new food, the issue stopped. She still gets some crusties, like most dogs do, but they're not runny anymore and occurring all the time. Also she was pooping a TON- I know pups always poop more, so it could've just been an age factor as well, but the poops did lessen significantly after the switch.
Yes this is all anecdotal and just my personal experience but I do believe foods can play a factor in small things for sure.
