Targeted laws are very dangerous, but, even if satire, sadly, many people will cry out in unison FOR them as long as it is not going to affect them personally. As a 'people' we appear to 'fail' ourselves by 'not' supporting each other's rights and supporting bans and restrictions on our personal freedoms. We often do this well meaningly, as with opposition to puppy mills, because those who abuse their/our freedoms can do so with such harmful results, but legislation always seems to 'hurt' the 'good' without eliminating the 'bad' element that prompted it. I always fear the reaction when it is discovered that there are no rights left to worry about being taken away. I sincerely hope this is never taken seriously.
