I had a look but can't really tell much from just one picture at that angle..

About the chip: my vet did inform me that they are painful for dogs and especially small dogs. However, the chip is still recommended. It is like human vaccinations which are painful at the time, and sore after a few days, but immunize us for disease. Anyway, I was grateful for my vets honesty. It's a shame that you were traumatized by it all - perhaps some honesty and competence would have made the experience better.
