Because years ago, it was not all corporate sponsors and such. It was "good ol' boys who built the cars one piece at a time, if an engine blew, then they were out of the race cause there wasn't any back up engine. Rickie Rudd was the last owner/driver on the circuit. He was respected by fans just for that fact.....those days are long gone. Multiple owners owning multiple cars....aint' just for good old farm boys any more.
PS. Personally Dale Earnhardt Jr sounds like he didn't complete 8th grade, though by the time he was born, dad could've gotten him an entire private education....obviously Jr. had dad's money and didn't need it.
