I have not seen hundreds of Yorkie pups but the ones I have seen usually have a thinner coat than other breeds. The Yorkie can be a bit different in coat because they do not have an undercoat like most other breeds do. They just have, or are supposed to have a silky kind of outer coat without out any of the fluff that would grow on Maltese or a Shih Tzu.
My Gracie's coat did thicken as she matured but not until after she was about 18 months old. You will just have to wait and see.
Most Yorkies do get lighter in color as they get their adult coat although some stay dark. |
