Well firstly, I wouldn't take my new little pup anywhere until he/she had had all her shots....and then give it a couple of weeks.
Nothing can be caught by your little girl - I'd worry more about her jumping up and accidently knocking out tubes/lines etc.
I, personally, would hold her in my arms when the time comes - and let your neighbour just love on her from afar until everyone gets used to the situation
