How much does he weigh? Is it possible he has a belly ache from eating the 2 cans of food? With wet food, dogs require less water and will drink less. I would not force too much with the fluids.
Trust your instincts and return to the vet if necessary. If his gums are sticky and pale, go to the vet immediately. Any diarrhea or vomiting, also go to the vet.
