You do realize that you can breed two dogs with normal patellas and can still get a puppy with patella problem? As Gemy said it's poly genetic and environmental. I personally test all my dogs patellas and have them registered with OFA, but attitudes like yours are what stop breeders from wanting to test and publish results. Patellas are a very common problem in toy breeds and we will never eradicate it completely, even if only dogs with normal patellas are bred. Many reputable breeders are okay with breeding dogs that have a grade 1 LP. I do feel like a grade 2 or above however would probably not be a great candidate for breeding though. Also, you have to see what your dog is producing. You can have a dog with normal patellas produce puppies with patellas that require surgery and that dog would need to be eliminated from a breeding program. There is so much research and thought that goes into breeding correctly....as Gemy said it's not always an all or nothing, black and white, thing....rarely is actually.

To the OP, good luck in your search.
