I do agree it is different with each dog, but for puppies the guidelines we have our sound. Very young puppies - after eating, after waking, after playing, and then one hour per one month of life. That is why pups are so exhausting :-)


Adult dogs are different - but I don't like to make a habit of other than for overnight sleeping to let the doggies go beyond 5 hours - Get some-one to come in mid-day and give a walk about and a pee/ poo break if you are out all day working. Sure many can hold it much longer, but I don't think they should always have to.


Also as dogs become senior their potty habits might change. Magic now often-times needs to go out at 2 or 3 am for pottying. He lets me know, by gently waking me with his nose.
