I have the Dyson animal too, and I have never had any clogging issues with it. I've had it long enough I am considering trading it in. I understand your feelings on the plastic parts too as that is something I always look at and wonder how plastic can hold up, but it has. We have had it since they first came out so quite a while and sure, there is some wear and tear with 2-3 times a week use. But, did you know if you register your Dyson, and call them when something breaks or you need a part they'll send it to you, free. I've had them send me a new brush head, and a belt a few years back, and I'm getting ready to have them send me another replacement.
