Thanks for this. If the op hasn't been frightened off this article will be very helpful. My vet did call back confirming that the term blue born and the condition cda are often used interchangeably but are different in that blue born refers to a congenital condition which is normally fatal whereas cda is a mutation of the phenotype responsible for color. Therefore, the internet is highly misleading when it refers to blue borns and CDA as the same condition as compared to how it is used clinically.

There may be correlations between color and other genes so she suggested that any queries regarding blood lines be asked of the breeder

Hope this and other info assists until someone with experience of c d a comes along..

In the meantime this condition is found in other breeds with blue coat genes so may be worthwhile checking other forums like Doberman for example
