Hypoglycemia is a concern with small, young puppies if they are not eating. Is your pup in that catagory? If so, I think it is much more important to get the pup eating properly and often and watch for the physical symptoms of hypoglycemia if the pup is not eating or is playing too hard.

My Dog Meika was diabetic. Canine glucose meters (I had Alpha Trak) are calibrated differently than human meters and use different test strips (at about $1 each). I have to say that pricking her and getting a drop of blood from her ear (recommended place for dogs) was the most stressful thing I ever had to do.

You are better off to get the pup eating properly, and have some Nutrical available to give the pup if it does not eat, and you see signs of hypo.
