He could have gotten super excited, over anxious in his feelings and how to express them, became hyperexcited, wanting to urinate for relief. In some dogs, urination is almost a displacement behavior - something they do when they don't know what else to do with their feelings. Or, he could have been trying to send a social message to you that he's vying for control and marking his lesser in rank in the process, though if you are the leader in your relationship, the latter is very highly doubtful. More than likely, he just got too emotionally carried away, as humans do at times, and did an off-the-wall thing.
