I got my Maggie at 7 weeks (the legal age you can get a pup here in VA). From the day she came home, she pottied outside in a small area. She used potty pads at the breeders but never seemed interested in them once she got here. I tried to offer the pads and she didn't have anything to do with them and would go to the door to go out. I stay home so I was able to take her out every hour, or as needed. I also got up every 2 hours with her at night to take her out when she would whine. She is crate trained so is in her crate while we are gone or at night. I just blocked off most of the crate so she only had a place to lay down. She has only pottied in her crate once or twice. And, now at 10 months old, she goes to the door and whines to go out. I was told that Yorkies are hard to house train but she's been pretty easy since I stayed on top of it and made sure she had plenty of chances to go out and potty.
Good luck with your new little one! |
