I would have training sessions and used a leash with mine. I would open the door and when she took off I would step on it and say wait. And then I would go out first every time. She learned to sit and wait. She never knows if I'm taking her or not until I tell her ok come or I shut door. Now that she's old she just looks at me from the couch with an "am I going" look.
