Determined Dash out Door Piper usually sulks underneath couch or bed when I'm preparing to leave for work, but suddenly she's taken to trying to run out the front door. She is incredibly determined and lightning fast and this new behavior is very scary for me. Today I had to block her several times (while issuing very stern "no"), and actually had my hand on her head while closing slightly open door with my foot. So then I just picked her up, telling her she had to stay home and I'd be back soon (just lunch w/co-workers), and as I edged my way out door, set her down, only to have her charge door immediately--which I closed quickly, telling Piper I loved her. Piper has learned that when I come home, if she's too close to the door, I won't come in until she "backs up" and as soon as she does so, I come in and the love fest begins. Any suggestions how I might curb Piper's determination to jet out the door (all her yorki-ness manifested itself with today's departure and lemme tell ya, it was a miracle to me that she didn't make it out!) Your insights and help will be truly and greatly appreciated! |
