Yes it can be passed from animal to human and human to animal. To keep an animal that that has been exposed to or has had ebola would put the human at risk. Live subjects are needed for further research.
Very sad indeed that the poor dog had to be euthanized but Spain was being better safe than sorry.
And if the patient lied, that leaves no room for judgment. He's no longer here to defend himself or even to say what his rationale was for doing so. I can ascertain that he probably was scared for his life, thought he might get better healthcare here and took a chance. A chance that put others at risk. We live or die by the choices we make and the majority of the time it also will have an impact on someone else.
