 New Yorkie Owner
Just wanted to say hello and I will be on this forum allot to learn more about the breed. I may have committed the ultimate sin and got a yorkie prior to allot of study but the first 5 days have been fun.
Our family includes myself, wife and 6 year old. Wanted to get a dog for awhile.... last dog I had was 5 years ago a border collie/aussie sheep mix. Loved him but we are in a home with no real yard so was thinking of a smaller dog. Went to to a couples home for dinner for the first time they used to breed yorkies and they had kept 1 an 18 month old named Max. Do to there life changing we took him in for a trial run.
It's allot different having a small dog I have a allot to learn but so far I really enjoy having him around. Max looks very cute and he does not bark allot. He seems moody by that I mean tail up all excited in the morning late at night when going out on leash tail down very timid..... but hey aren't we all like that? At any rate I will be looking in this forum allot searching for things to help me just wanted to say hello....
Some things I will be looking for....
Max was taught to go on a pee pad. I don't mind that but want to teach him to go out side(ok maybe I do mind). Hopefully that will work.... so far he has been able to poop in the am and some times at night he pees but often it is for marking territory. When he does go on the bad it is pee 1 time he pooped.... wondering if I take away the pad?
Do i need to put a bow in his hair to keep his hair out of his eyes? I like the no bow look lol
I have left him up stairs in the house with his bed only... no pen... so far so good do you all do that? He has only been home alone for 2 to 3 hours so far
Do you all free feed? I liked giving out 1 meal a day.... looks like a cup of food a day?
When it gets cold out side like below freezing can he still be let out to go pee/poop with a jacket on? what do some of you do?
Trying to get him to sit lol he seems to come when called because he is getting very attached wondering how training will go with him.... I am trying to get him to sit on command right now but he just looks around or at me.... wanting the treat in my hand.... I know it will be allot of work.
So he has not been fixed yet. When on lap he starts licking allot last night he started humping my arm.... I said no and put/pushed him on the floor he ran back to his bed and looked at me till I called him over after a few minutes.... have to figure out how to stop licking I guess....
