Default Scratches what she wants

If Lola wants food or water she scratches her bowls.
If a door is shut she scratches it.
She scratches if wants something off a table, or if she wants on the furniture and something is blocking her way.

This is her primary way of telling me what she wants, if I ignore the scratching she'll progress to growling and then barking.

If she wants something that isn't easy to communicate with scratching (ex. play time) she'll go straight to the growling and barking.

Lola isn't much of a barker, if she gets to that point it's like she's yelling. She's never growled in an aggressive way, that's just how she talks.

I love the way she communicates, it's a lot easier on my ears than barking and I usually know exactly what she wants, but I've never had a dog do this before.

My other dogs would dance around and bark when they wanted something. The only dog that does something similar is my cousin's dog scratches the treat cabinet, but that's the only time she does it.

Does anyone else have a dog that scratches or growls to communicate?
