Your post has really out my mind at ease. Whilst I'm working in central London so I can't pop back, I'm positive my neighbours would help.
I will definitely look at getting a camera although it may result in me not doing any work and just watching all day.
I'm not going to crate him all day but use a puppy pen so he can feel more relaxed then eventually just gate off my kitchen as its massive. I'm also going to litter train as I would feel terrible if he had to hold it in all day and then something happens and he got nowhere to go. It doesn't happen often but it's stressful enough commuting without that worry.
I just worry so much as everyone is so bloody negative!

You're very welcome, I'm glad our similar situation could be of help putting your mind at ease.
A pen and indoor training is a great idea if you can't get back home. The camera does getting boring as even now Penny knows just to sleep all day when we're gone. Every time I check the camera she's still asleep just in a different position!
If your neighbours can't always help (I don't know if you have anything like this near you) but the place I take Penny for training also offers dog sitting services, and even a service to pop in on your dog in the daytime. I think it's something like £7 for them to go in for half an hour, check on them, let them out, water change and play. Or £10 for an hour or something.
Anyway it's a really good idea and they're lovely. Me and Ben are getting married next year and Penny will be staying with them for a couple of days

(shame she won't be at the wedding)
Good Luck though! I can't wait to see the little one when you get him! Maybe we can arrange a play date for them eventually since you're not far!
