I can not imagine what your vet is implying when he says it is not an approved heartworm medication?????? HE may not approve Revolution for whatever reason, but it is a great preventative, and as long as it is applied correctly by the owner, ie, directly onto the skin, it is VERY effective. I have used Revolution for years on my dogs, with excellent effective protection. Here in Texas, we are EATEN up by mosquitoes, so it obviously works very well! My own vet used to not "recommend" it because she said owners do not apply topicals correctly and that is what makes them ineffective...it MUST go directly onto the skin and not just dropped onto the hair at the shoulder blades. Our tiny little adults tolerate it beautifully...I get the weight appropriate dose for tiny dogs.....I send all my puppies home started on Revolution, because they have a dose for little puppies.
