I have zero deductible and they pay 90% of vet bills, tests, meds etc, they even pay 50% of prescription food costs. I only had insurance for my one year old for about six months and they covered the necessary expensive cataract surgery. I have to initially pay the vet costs, but reimbursement is very quick...and I never get any problems. They do not cover routine things or the vet visit costs. It is important that the dog has no existing conditions!! My insurance covers hereditary conditions like luxating patellla etcetera ( if not presexisting at the time!), that is important too.
If I did not have zero deductible, Trupanion has the deductible for each condition, not per year.....and that could be an issue. But There is only one deductible per condition. Some insurances have yearly or lifetime limits, TP has no limits.
This is a very complex decision and it depends on what you want from insurance and what you can afford to pay. One thing is clear to me and that is.....it is an excellent idea!! My dog's cataract issues have been very costly!
I have had only one fee increase in 5 years, and in general the fee does not increase with age, but depends on the current vet cost averages in any area.
Good luck with the research, and I hope others will give their experiences and input to aid you in the decision! |
Thanks hun I appreciate your response... I was really wondering about reimbursement part because it gets a little confusing (you cleared that up a bit) then I started seeing some plans only had one thing that I needed and I would need more or something like that. But in case my baby has problems or something happens I would like to know i did everything in my power to keep her around. As of right now she is healthy no issues so far. But I'm very aware that things do happen and I like to be proactive. In college my professor always said proper preparation prevents poor performance.
