I use a large dog cage for our dog. It gives him enough room. I have a pee pad on one half and a bed on the other along with toys, food and water. He has only ever pooped in the cage once (the 1st night). And now at 8 mo he almost never pees in the cage. He will cry when he needs out to pee. He sleeps in there and is also there during the day when I am at work. He doesn't mind it. If you give them a larger cage they are more likely to poop and pee far from their bed.
