In seeking to replace her I researched the breed and found the AKC standards to be quite limited since she weighed 12 pounds, but that is the purpose of AKC registration, that is, limits. No problem, but there is a lot of confusion regarding standards. We would like a pet that isn't restrained by the AKC standards, but is still a Yorkie in spirit. By the way, Daisy was registered with America's Pet Registry, Inc.

Well in the US the only registry that is reputable is the AKC all the others are not and some you can even register a table with. Reputable breeders in the US will only use the AKC. If your wanting to breed the dog being AKC registered is pretty important. If breeding is not important and pure breed is not important you might want to look at some yorkie rescues and local shelters.
