Adopting from a rescue or shelter does not in any way guarantee they will be free from health defects.

In fact there are no guarantees, at best there are good breeders that breed for health and test their breeding stock, and know the health lineage. But even still stuff can happen. So many genetic or thought to be genetic conditions are polygenetic have no genetic tests for so the best a good breeder can do is test that this dog(s) are clear of A B or C.
